Former Nigerian teammates at Portuguese Segunda Liga side, AD Oliveirense, Jacob Adebanjo and James Igbekeme have been snapped up by Vitoria Setubal and Gil Vicente, respectively. Setubal competes in Liga NOS, the Portuguese top tier. Whereas, Gil Vicente are in the Segunda Liga.
Both players were coincidentally signed by Oliveirense in July 2015, but only played competitively together once, in their 1-3 loss to Braga in the Taca de Portugal. — Adebanjo only managing a cap for Oliveirense.
Lagos-born Adebanjo, a former Remo Stars player, moved from Farense B to Quarteirense, and then to Oliveirense within the same year. However, James Igbekeme, who is a product of Ribeirao youth set up, rose up the ranks at Ribeirao, before making a switch to Oliveirense on a free transfer.
While Adebanjo, 23, is seen as a direct replacement to Super Eagles defensive midfielder, Mikel Agu, at Vitoria Setubal, 22 year old Igbekeme is a natural left-footer who can play as a left winger or on the left side midfield.
