Kelechi Iheanacho will fight his way back into Pep Guardiola’s plans – despite the arrival of Gabriel Jesus, Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has revealed.
Rohr disclosed that he has spoken to Kelechi who has been left out of the Citizens’ last four matchday squads.
Since the arrival of Pep Guardiola to Manchester City, Kelechi has only started nine games despite Sergio Aguero missing seven games.
The arrival of Brazilian international, Gabriel Jesus, has relegated Aguero to the bench, and worse still, knocked Kelechi out of the squad.
However, Rohr has confidence in Iheanacho’s mental strength, which will see him fight his way back in the team.
I am sure Kelechi will come back to this team, He’s a fighter, he has a good fighting spirit.
Rohr told Africanfootball.com, “I am sure Kelechi will come back to this team, He’s a fighter, he has a good fighting spirit. This player is a good athlete and he has a good mind. I have spoken with him and he will come back. He’s a young player, so sometimes he plays, sometimes he doesn’t. And for a big club like Manchester City, you can’t play all the time.I believe he will come back to play for City again.”
Guardiola has described the trio of Jesus, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling as the ‘future’. In November the Manchester City handler joked that it would take a change of manager to improve Kelechi’s first team chances. And from the look of things at the moment the coach may have been serious after all.
